“Give, and it will be given to you”
- Luke 6:38
Healthcare is approached as a responsibility at Amala Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS). Amala has developed a structured freeship and concession programmes to make sure that financial limitations should never become a barrier for quality health support.
Through these initiatives, Amala supports economically backward patients with respect and aids them in leading a wholesome life. These efforts make AIMS the most trusted, patient-centric, and caring medical college hospital in Thrissur
AIMS has established multiple patient-support schemes designed to assist individuals and families facing financial hardship. These programmes offer free or subsidised medical services, treatment assistance, and psychosocial support based on need and careful assessment.
250 economically underprivileged patients receive completely free treatment under this structured initiative by Amala. Patients can avail this for departments such as General Medicine, Paediatrics and Psychiatry, guaranteeing consistent care without any financial burden. Eligible recipients get free consultation, necessary lab tests, and prescribed medicines.
The primary goal of RIPPLES programme is to improve the quality of life of children with developmental delays, especially those with cerebral palsy.
The programme focuses on:
Abhayam is designed as a comfort initiative for patients admitted to the Palliative Care ward. Under this scheme, they receive complete free benefits, including medical treatment and support services. Through this, patients are assured of top-rated medical care for life-limiting illnesses without having financial anxiety at Thrissur’s best medical college hospital.
Deserving patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy in the Department of Oncology at AIMS have access to the Adhar Fund.
To ensure this assistance is extended to patients who are genuinely in need, a thorough psychosocial assessment will be conducted by the Medical Social Work team.
Financial concessions on hospital charges for economically backward inpatients are provided through the Management Concession initiative.
Concessions are granted based on:
This way people who are most in need get support that is equitable and transparent. This is only possible because of the thoughtful and ethical approach of Amala’s leadership team. Their compassionate approach has not only uplifted a lot of lives but also made AIMS the best medical college hospital in Thrissur.
The Department of Oncology, in association with the Department of Medical Social Work, brings together cancer survivors twice a year through the Cancer Survivors Meet. These gatherings provide opportunities to share personal survival tales and offer mutual encouragement and emotional support. This platform helps them address social stigma and overcome their anxiety.
Prolonged hospital stays can put a financial strain on patients and as a solution to this AIMS extends a 25% reduction on ward charges for economically vulnerable patients after surgery. For families experiencing ever greater financial hardship, an additional 15% concession is also provided. This will be based on the structured assessment by the social work team at Amala. This let the patients focus on recovery rather than the pressure of post-treatment expenses.
Children are our future, and AIMS is committed to safeguarding their happiness & growth even while they battle chronic diseases. Guided by this, AIMS acknowledges the emotional and financial burden of Paediatric bone marrow transplant (BMT) and provides an effective solution to support the families going through this journey.
A paediatric BMT typically costs around ₹10 - ₹25 lakhs, based on the child’s medical condition. AIMS absorbs nearly 75% of the treatment cost, significantly reducing the financial burden on the families from low tiers of the economy. Support partners are directed towards meeting the remaining portion of the expenses so that no child is denied timely, life-saving care due to financial limitations. Amala’s goal is to complete 50 paediatric bone marrow transplants by 2028.
Compatible donor availability is also critical to the success of this initiative, and stem cell donor registration is also a key focus along with founding partners.
Aabha is a deeply meaningful community care initiative that offers free Kanji (nutritious rice porridge) to anyone within the hospital premises who require a simple and comforting meal. It is open to patients, bystanders, and visitors alike, without conditions or questions. It is based on the belief that no one should experience hunger in the world and is meant to be a daily act of kindness.
Another dedicated support programme for children is WINGS. This initiative provides free treatment for children affected by cancer. Amala covers the full treatment cost, removing the barrier to timely and comprehensive care for children. They receive specialised oncology care through this initiative, starting from diagnosis through to the end of treatment.
The SDM Fund, formerly known as the Susan Daniel Memorial Fund, supports economically disadvantaged oncology patients by extending financial assistance for cancer treatment and related care.
An international volunteer organization based out of the USA supports this initiative, reflecting a shared commitment to service and humanitarian support beyond all borders.
Charity initiatives at Amala are not viewed as exceptions but as an integral part of patient-centered care and upholding the founders’ vision. Through this inclusive mindset, we consider healthcare as a fundamental right and believe that it should be accessible to everyone irrespective of their financial background or ethnicity. Amala also actively engages in organizing support programmes and events regularly to strengthen emotional well-being and peer support for people in need.
Through sustained efforts in free treatment, concessions, community support, and psychosocial care, Amala continues to follow in the path of its leaders as a caring medical college hospital in Kerala.
